Remember all of the high priced commercials during the SuperBowl Half time show. Seconds for millions of dollars for advertisement for Chevy, Ford and Dodge. Cute commercials, but were they really necessary? To those with credit card debt, were you able to avoid Bankruptcy?
I have been unemployed for 1 1 2 years, searching desperately for a job. I had my last job for 10 years, and live in Texas. I will now need to get part time jobs to be able to survive since I am out of unemployment, and have used all of my 401k and savings to pay my creditors. I am behind 6 months on my credit card bills. I have credit card debt around $75,000.00, but I only have two large balances of $15,000.00 each with two banks that are threatening to put a lien on my house, and garnish my paycheck when I do get a job. If in the past if you were in my similar situation, did the banks credit card companies work with you? Did they try to put a lien on your house, or garnish your paycheck? How did you work with them, or fight it to keep your house getting a lien placed on it, or having to file bankruptcy?A lawyer recommended I file bankruptcy, but I have applied for so many jobs that require credit checks, and do not want to risk my potential employer from finding out I filed for bankruptcy. The other creditors are a mix of 1 they will accept temporary lower payments 2 or they will charge off the debt and send to a collection agency 3 or the other two banks that say they will put an abstract of judgment lien on my house which I already have a mortgage and have never been late, or garnish my paycheck by contacting my new employer directly to take a part of my paycheck.Bottom line is, what was your strategy to avoid bankruptcy. I want to pay my bills and will do anything to avoid bankrupcty, but these two banks do not understand that I am not working, and I am also taking care of my mother who has Alzheimers and 90 years old.Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. My personal and professional reputation means everything to me, and I want to be sure and make the right decisions. Thank you.
