Do you recommend debt management companies to lower your high credit card bill?
I've checked some of them out on the Internet & am skeptical of which one to apply for. Do you trust them? I've heard they cut your balance by 50 % & completely zero out your percentage rate, but your credit is shot for many years after. You pay off your debt within about 36 months. My debt is about $20K & I earn about $74K, which is enough to make my monthly Visa payment, but barely. Do I make too much to be accepted by a debt management company? Which companies are good? I know these companies charge a monthly fee, but it is worth it, I'm sure. I don't want to apply for the wrong company, though, were they charge me an extremely high monthly fee & scam me. Please help. Thanks. Also, are you allowed to use a credit card that has a $0 balance on it, once you start paying your expensive bill through a debt management company? Thx.

How good are those debt management companies?
I have managed to rack up a good amount of credit card debt and with my income, am not going to be able to pay it off for years. I keep hearing about these non profit debt management companies, who offer to consolidate and settle your debt, so you owe less. I've even looked them up on BBB and found that some of them have great ratings, and others essentially take your money and run.So I guess my question is, how good are these companies at doing what they promise, and will doing this mess up your credit as I've heard they typically close your accounts ?Thanks.

How do i get my phone number stopped from debt management companies?
I keep getting phone calls from Debt Management Companies who want to help ease my debt problems, they won't stop calling, different companies all the time. I'm not in debt and will have all my payments finished by December. Why do they keep calling as they are a farce as the help they give with the charges they eventually charge are real bad as I have been told. One company got me worried so much the other day I nearly had a panic attack but later found out from my bank they are trying to get me to get help from them which is not needed. How can you stop this if at all. I know some people need the help but I don't.

Where can you find a reputable debt management company?
Below is an answer to a debt question I asked. Im 70K in CC debt. You hear so many stories about these companies that say they settle debts and stories of how they really can t do anything but just take your money. Does anybody know how to ferret out a reputable company that really does that service? What I would recommend would be to talk to an accountant or get some information from a company who can help settle debt for a lower cost. If you do that and they project that you can settle your debt for say 15 25k,

In the UK, , apart from the citizens advice service , what is the best, free debt management company?
I am in debt and recently had the citizens advice write to some of my debtors. After income and expenditure assesments they were only in a position to offer all 8 debtors 1 a month each. As expected, they all but 1 wrote back refusing the offer. I then get a letter from citizens advice saying that the case was now closed ?Apart from being very difficult to reach on the phone,, appointments 3 or 4 weeks apart and not enough communication ,i have completly lost faith in them and dont want to go back and have the case re opened and am looking at some alternative to help me.I have spoken to " debt free direct " but they charge for the service 15 % of total debt or min 25 a month which is not what i want.I have 2 companys chasing me with letters saying they are are going to persue me for bancrupty.Things are not good and i fear i only have a matter of weeks before it all comes to a head and i lose my house in a bancruptcy. I need to speak to someone in the debt management industry as soon as possible so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Is there any good debt management company?
Most debt management companies are looking to take advantage of your situation. Is there any that is truly interested in helping to get out of debt?

HELP,I am debating on using a credit settlement company or debt management company, what were your experiences?
I make my payments on time every month to my cards, but wont be able to soon. I have reached out to my 2 credit cards numerous times telling them I may file for bankruptcy and they wont get anything, and asking for them to lower interest rate so I can make my monthly payments and actually see my balance go down instead of mostly toward interest. I was refused on any time of payment plan, settlement offer, or interest rate reduction.NEXT I spoke at length with Take Charge America, who will set me up on a 5 year payment plan after the banks negotiate with THEM apparently , and I will pay off my full balance in 5 years, along with about $4k in interest and $2400 or so in fees to the company. Cards will be closed.OR I use Credit Solutions and I default on my cards so they can negotiate with the banks on my behalf and present me with settlement amounts which could be half if not more of the balance I pay them $200. for 18 months and my debts to cards is paid within 36 months, if not sooner, at almost $12k less than what I owed. BUT Credit solutions has many scary reviews online. I spoke at length with 2 of their reps and they explained the process to me and it sounds like garden variety debt settlement, so.. i dunno. Which company? Anyone have any experience with either?I also just called the collection dept. of my cards again and told them all this, can THEY offer me a settlement or payment plan so that there are no 3rd parties and the bank gets their money. They said nope, sorry. So i am kind of backed into a corner of having to use one or the other
